Install Oacle 10G XE on linux ubuntu E-mail

Install Oacle 10G XE on linux ubuntu

  These are the steps which will help to install ORACLE 10G xe on UBUNTU.
I tried it successfully on my laptop (Processor AMD 64).

1. Download the Debian package (oracle-xe-universal_10.2.0.1-1.0_i386.deb)
   --  Please note you can also download rpm package.
       For installing RPM package please search Google as these steps are easy and provided
       on many sites.

2. Please ensure swap memory is latest as required by ORACLE 10G
   -- Google to see how to change swap memory

3. Please ensure libaio is installed. Go to system-> synaptic and search for libaio
   $ apt-get install libaio

4. Append a line to /etc/apt/sources.list file as below

   $ sudo vi /etc/apt/sources.list

   Append following line:

   deb http://oss.oracle.com/debian unstable main non-free

    Save and close the file.

    Run below command
    $ wget http://oss.oracle.com/el4/RPM-GPG-KEY-oracle -O- | sudo apt-key add -

    Next step is Update package database:

    $ sudo apt-get update


5. Install deb package
   dpkg -i ./oracle-xe-universal_10.2.0.1-1.0_i386.deb
   (Please ensure you have root permission to run this command
    To run with sudo permission run below command
    $ sudo dpkg -i ./oracle-xe-universal_10.2.0.1-1.0_i386.deb)

6. if any error, please make sure delete/remove oracle-xe using synaptic

7. if no error, you can see below details.
   Reading package lists... Done
   Building dependency tree
   Reading state information... Done
   .
   .
   .
   Need to get 221MB/221MB of archives.
   After unpacking 405MB of additional disk space will be used.
   Do you want to continue [Y/n]? y
   Get:1 http://oss.oracle.com unstable/non-free oracle-xe 10.2.0.1-1.1 [221MB]
   ....
   ....Post-install configuration

8. Its time to configure the database

$ sudo /etc/init.d/oracle-xe configure

Output:

Oracle Database 10g Express Edition Configuration
-------------------------------------------------
This will configure on-boot properties of Oracle Database 10g Express
Edition.  The following questions will determine whether the database should
be starting upon system boot, the ports it will use, and the passwords that
will be used for database accounts.  Press  to accept the defaults.
Ctrl-C will abort.

Specify the HTTP port that will be used for Oracle Application Express [8080]: [Enter key]

Specify a port that will be used for the database listener [1521]:[Enter key]

Specify a password to be used for database accounts.  Note that the same
password will be used for SYS and SYSTEM.  Oracle recommends the use of
different passwords for each database account.  This can be done after
initial configuration: password
Confirm the password: password

Do you want Oracle Database 10g Express Edition to be started on boot (y/n) [y]:y

Starting Oracle Net Listener...Done
Configuring Database...Done
Starting Oracle Database 10g Express Edition Instance...Done
Installation Completed Successfully.
To access the Database Home Page go to "http://127.0.0.1:8080/apex"
To access the Database Home Page go to http://127.0.0.1:8080/apex.

9. Now try to connect using SQL

   on root type
   $ SQLPLUS
   SQL> conn SYSTEM
   SQL> password: this is the password given while configuration step above.

   Congrats now you are connected to SQLPLUS

10. for connecting to GUI use
    "http://127.0.0.1:8080/apex" use system and password to login or your own schema
     name and password.

NOTE: If installation unsuccessful then please remove oracle-xe or oracle-xe-univ(versal) package 
using synaptic else you will receive error on oracle_env.sh overwrite error.
